Consent-Led Canine Physical Therapy

Physical therapy for dogs, on the dog’s terms

The dog decides what happens next.

Most handling is done to the dog. Heather Halton works the other way. She reads the dog, waits until he or she is ready, and builds the relationship before she does anything with her hands. Trust comes before touch.

What it stands for

The dog decides

The dog gets a say in his or her own treatment, and trust comes before touch.

The name says it. “Pawmission Granted” reads as a play on words, but underneath the pun it is exactly the method: the dog grants permission. Heather reads the dog, honours when he or she is ready, and builds the relationship before she works. That is the whole of it, and it is rare to do well.

This is not only a kinder experience for the dog, the owner and the professional. Treatment is more effective on a relaxed, willing dog. So reading the dog first does not slow the work down, it leads to better outcomes.

Setting Up Your Clinic for Calmer Sessions

For animal physical therapists, vet techs and rehabilitation practitioners.

The room shapes the session before you touch the dog. A few changes to your clinic, the kind that lower stress and let the dog settle, mean you can assess sooner, with less struggle, and the dog is more willing to take part. This short course shows you what to change and why.

Carries CPD hours and a certificate of completion.
